Western Shooting Range

A couple Fridays ago, Scott took the day off and him and I had a day date.  We had seen Western Shooting Range awhile ago, but haven't had time to go.  We actually did a separate activity that was called The Cowboy Experience.  Our two instructors were dressed up like cowboys and there was an old western town. To start, we had to go over safety, then they told us about the history about the guns and rifles we'd be using.  After that, we practiced shooting and then had different old west scenarios to act out.

This was my first time ever shooting.  The first 3 times, I missed.  So the instructor took my safety goggles and covered the left eye with tape. He said I was left eye dominant.  After that, I hit every target.  It was so cool! We practiced with a revolver and double barrel riffle.

After practicing, we played out the different scenarios.  First, we did more shooting because a coach wagon such as Wells Fargo wanted to hire us to protect them as they delivered gold.  Once they saw we could shoot well, they hired us.  Then we sat on a makeshift wagon.  One of the guys would come and rob us.  We had to then pick up a  the double barrel shotgun and shoot 2 targets.  Then we'd grab the revolver in our belt and shoot 4 more targets.  We both hit them all!

After we killed off the robbers, we went to the saloon for a drink.  While there, we played black jack.  After the dealer won, someone shouted, I think he was cheating. We then took out our pistol, shot him, then shot 3 other men coming to help him, then hit two more targets with the double barrel shotgun.

After that, we just practiced shooting at different targets at different distances.  I was surprised how well we shot.  We hit them all.  Some had water bottles hanging from them and we'd hit those too.

Lastly, we got to Split the Bullet.  The guys put a black line on the head of an ax.  That's what we were aiming for.  Behind it were two Styrofoam plates. If we hit the ax, it would split the bullet and go through each plate.  It took us each two tries to get it.  That was the only target that took me two times to hit.

The guys there took pictures and said they'd post them on their website, but they still haven't.  I was waiting to post hoping to have more to show.  I'll keep checking and update when they do.

It was a fun morning spent together.
