Bug Camp

Tyler and his friend, Colby are always looking for and catching bugs.  I saw in the summer camp book a bug camp.  It sounded like something Tyler would really enjoy.  At first, he only wanted to do it with Colby, but Colby could not.  So he said he didn't want to go.  I continued to talk to him about it every now and then for a few weeks and he finally said he wanted to go even if it was by himself.  He had Bug Camp this past week Monday-Thursday from 9:00-12:30 and he loved it!!!  He had so much fun.  He got a net to catch bugs with, a kit with different viles to hold bugs and one with a solution to kill them.  They also made an aspiration to suck bugs up with.  They got a magnifying glass and tweezers to pick up the bugs with.
During his time there, they always went out looking for bugs for while.  In class, they learned a little about insects and the different kinds.  They learned a lot about bees.  Molly, his teacher, brought in several insects to show them.  One day, a guy brought in snakes, tarantulas, lizards...Tyler loved it. This guy does birthday parties and Tyler wants that for his next birthday, but I say-NO!  The last day, they had a presentation and all the kids got their Jr. Entomologist Certificate and showed us some of the things they had done.

This is a beetle that is pulling a tray with pennies in it
They were able to pin all the bugs they collected.  Tyler is proud of his bug collection.  He's shown anyone willing to look at it.
I'm so proud of Tyler for trying something new all by himself and am so glad he had a great experience with it.
